Privacy Charter — Riftgaze
1. Who Operates This Site
This website, riftgaze.com, is operated by Archer Hayes, a private individual trading as Riftgaze, at 3/32 Ledgar Rd, Balcatta WA 6021, Australia. Archer Hayes is the entity responsible for the personal information handled through this site for the purposes of the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) set out in Schedule 1 of that Act.
There is no company, trust or other corporate structure behind Riftgaze — it is a sole editorial project. You can reach the operator directly using the contact details in section 9 below.
2. What Personal Information Is Collected
Riftgaze has no account system, no forms, no newsletter sign-up and no search field. The site does not ask you for a name, an email address or any other personal information at any point.
Two limited categories of information reach the operator in the ordinary course of running the site: (a) correspondence you choose to send to [email protected] — this may include your name, your email address and whatever you write in the message; and (b) standard technical logs generated automatically by the hosting infrastructure and content delivery network described in section 4, such as IP address, browser type, referring page and the pages you request.
No health, financial, biometric or other sensitive information (as defined by the Privacy Act) is intentionally collected through this site.
3. Why We Handle It, and the Legal Basis
Correspondence sent to our email address is used solely to read and respond to the message — for example, a correction request about a review, a question about an image credit, or a suggestion for a game to cover. This is handled on the basis of your voluntary act of writing to us; we do not add addresses collected this way to any marketing list, because no such list exists.
Technical logs from the hosting provider and Cloudflare (see section 4) are used only to deliver the site reliably, detect abuse and keep it secure. This is a legitimate operational purpose necessary to run a public website and falls within what the APPs describe as information reasonably necessary for the operator's functions.
4. Who Receives Information, Including Overseas
Two service providers are involved in running riftgaze.com: the hosting provider that stores the site files, and Cloudflare, Inc., which operates as the content delivery network (CDN) in front of the site. Cloudflare receives standard connection-level data (IP address, request headers, timing) for every visit as a normal function of serving the pages over its global network, and may process this data on servers located outside Australia, including in the United States.
This is a cross-border disclosure for the purposes of Australian Privacy Principle 8. Cloudflare is a large, established infrastructure provider that publishes its own data protection commitments, and we have not entered into any arrangement with either provider that permits them to use your information for their own marketing purposes. We do not sell, rent or trade personal information to any third party, and there are no advertising networks, trackers or analytics pixels embedded in the content of this site.
If Cloudflare's own network-level analytics (a cookie-less performance beacon) is active on a given page, it is described in the Cookie Notice rather than here, since it does not involve information you provide to us directly.
5. How Long Information Is Kept
Emails sent to the contact address are kept only for as long as needed to handle the matter raised, and are deleted once resolved unless there is a good reason to keep a record for longer (for example, an ongoing correction to a published page). Technical logs held by the hosting provider and Cloudflare follow those providers' own standard retention cycles, which are typically measured in days to a few weeks, and are not something this site extends or archives separately.
6. Cookies and Local Storage
Riftgaze does not set any tracking or advertising cookies. The only client-side storage this site writes is a single, non-identifying preference in your browser's local storage, described in full in the Cookie Notice, recording whether you have dismissed the cookie banner. Full details, including any cookies Cloudflare itself may issue for security purposes, are covered in the Cookie Notice.
7. Security
The site is served exclusively over HTTPS, and access to the hosting account and email inbox is restricted to the operator. No system connected to the internet can be guaranteed completely secure, but no payment details, passwords or sensitive personal information are collected through this site in the first place, which meaningfully limits what could be exposed.
8. Your Rights Under the Privacy Act
Under Australian Privacy Principles 12 and 13, you may ask for access to personal information we hold about you (realistically, the content of any email you have sent us) and ask for it to be corrected if it is inaccurate. To make either request, write to the contact address in section 9 with enough detail to identify what you are asking about; we will respond within a reasonable period.
If you believe your privacy has been interfered with and are not satisfied with our response, you may lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC), GPO Box 5218, Sydney NSW 2001, Australia — website oaic.gov.au. We would appreciate the chance to resolve any concern directly first, at [email protected].
9. Children
Riftgaze is a general-audience games review site and is not directed at young children. Consistent with OAIC guidance on when a young person can generally make their own privacy decisions, we treat visitors under 15 as needing a parent or guardian's involvement before contacting us directly, and we do not knowingly correspond with a child under that age without one.
10. Contact and Complaints
Privacy questions, access or correction requests, and complaints about how this site handles information can all be sent to Archer Hayes at [email protected], or by post to 3/32 Ledgar Rd, Balcatta WA 6021, Australia. A phone contact is also available: +61 8 9240 5144.
11. Changes to This Charter
This Privacy Charter may be updated from time to time to reflect changes to the site or to Australian privacy law. The current version applies from the date shown below, which is updated whenever a substantive change is made. This charter was last updated on September 15, 2026.
